Police to increase raids on premises that buy scrap items

KUCHING: Sarawak police will increase raids on premises which buy scrap suspected to be stolen, especially those belonging to telecommunications companies.

“Raids under Ops Lusuh will be conducted with collaboration of other enforcement agencies,” said Sarawak police commissioner Dato Wira Muhammad Sabtu Osman in a press release here, yesterday.

Meanwhile, two suspects will be charged under Section 379 or Section 411 of the Penal Code for buying scrap items believed to have been stolen.

Both suspects were arrested in two raids on premises in Batu 12 1/2 Jalan Kuching-Serian and Batu 11 Jalan Kuching-Serian on Monday.

The raids were carried out by teams from D4 and D8 divisions of the Criminal Investigation Department.

Police also confiscated 212 batteries of various brands, 10 sacks of copper cables and 17 rolls
of aluminium cables. — Bernama
