MIRI: A 48-year-old woman died on the spot after the car she was travelling in skidded near Rh Guntol in Suai, Niah, at about 4.30pm on Tuesday.
The deceased was later identified as Egnes Monica Atau from Rh Muli, Sungai Sebungan, Sebauh in Bintulu.
It is understood that the victim’s husband, Endau Nyanggau, 50, was the driver of the Toyota Avanza and there were four passengers, including the deceased, inside the vehicle.
They were said to be on their way from Bintulu to bring Egnes, who was very ill, to see a shaman for traditional treatment at a longhouse located some 20 km from the Miri-Bintulu coastal road.
However, the engine of the vehicle suddenly stalled while they were ascending a hill near
Rh Guntol, which caused it to reverse before skidding to the road side.
Egnes died on the spot, while her husband and three other passengers suffered minor injuries.
The body of the deceased had been taken to Miri Hospital for post-mortem.
Police are investigating.
