KUCHING: A trip for a man to a mangrove jungle in Demak Laut to search for ‘lokan’ turned into a search-and-rescue mission for him after he failed to find his way out.
The victim, identified as 25-year-old Jackson Sumbang from Simunjan, went into the jungle around 10am yesterday but was unable to re-trace his footsteps out after high tide caused the water level of the river to rise and cover his tracks.
Fortunately for the victim, he had his mobile phone with him which allowed him to call a friend who, in turn, notified the Fire and Rescue Department for help around 2pm.
Firemen despatched to the scene were eventually able to locate the missing ‘lokan’ hunter at 4.30pm, who was not injured and led him back out of the mangrove jungle.
