Man, three women held in drug bust

JOHOR BAHARU: Police have crippled a drug processing and distributing activity following the detention of a man and three women in Muar, about 167km north of ere, on Sunday.

Johor police chief, Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the trio, aged from 16 to 74, were detained at a house in Taman Kampung Tengah, Jeram, based on intelligence at 2.30pm.

“Police also seized 14.3kg of ketamine worth RM1.7 million which can be used by 48,000 addicts,” he told reporters at the Johor Police Contingent Headquarters here, yesterday.

Mohd Mokhtar said police also seized chemicals, drug processing equipment and cash of RM69,000.

He said the trio had been remanded for further investigation.

In another case, Mohd Mokhtar said five men, aged 19 to 39, suspected to be carrying out money lending activities (Ah Long) were detained in several raids here Saturday and Tuesday.

He said the raids were held following throwing of molotov cocktail incidents at five houses on Oct 12.

“Police also seized a car, two cellphones, numerous telephone SIM cards and posters promoting Ah Long activity.

“One man was found with crime records including drugs,” he said, adding they were remanded until Sunday.

Mohd Mokhtar said police had conducted 51 operations against illegal money lending and
detained 96 individuals from January.

He said the police and the Johor Baharu City Council also conducted 252 operations to bring down posters promoting illegal money lending.

A total 14,793 posters were taken down and 2004 telephone numbers on the posters were referred to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, he added. — Bernama
