Mosquitoes ‘bugging’ regular trekkers of Canada Hill

MIRI: Complaints have been made with regard to infestation of mosquitoes along the hiking trail of Canada Hill.

According to Councillor Bruce Chai, the problem has been bugging regular trekkers.

“I’ve received complaints from members of public on the matter. It has become so bad that it has made trekkers unable to do their activities up the hill,” he said yesterday, adding that he already highlighted the problem to the Miri City Council (MCC).

However, he said the council would be unable to perform fogging at the area.

“I assure you all that we will approach the private sector to assist us in fogging. I fear that if we leave this matter on its own, it could become worse. Those who are hiking up Canada Hill might get dengue,” he said, adding that the trail attracts some 1,000 hikers every day.

The area is also the venue for the annual Canada Hill Trail Challenge organised by Bulatan Park Runners Club.
