BANJARBARU, South Kalimantan: Waterbomb by helicopter of National Disaster Management Agency of BPBD effectively extinguish forest and landfires in South Kalimantan that last until now, Antaranews reported.

“Helicopter dropped waterbombs directly to fires and burnt area, effectively extinguish the fire,” said Acting Head of the South Kalimantan Regional Disaster Management Agency Sufian AH in Banjarbaru Thursday in celebration of extinction over the air (water bombing).

Thanksgiving held in the VIP room of Sjamsudin Noor airbase attended by Danlanud Letkol Pnb Esron SB Sinaga, police representatives and the High Court of South Kalimantan.

BPBDs using helicopters MI 171 Russian-made weighing 11 tons capable of carrying 3.5 tons of water and was able to extinguish the burning land area.

According to Sufian, who also served as Deputy Head of Regional Operations (Opsda) land fire suppression, extinction over the air since October 22 to 31, 2014. “Since Wednesday, helicopter had water bombed land on fire, especially in the area of north and south rim of Banjar and Banjarbaru,” he said.

Extinction prioritized in peatlands, because the fire is still widespread and potentially causing thick smoke into the sky. “The smoke of the fire led to haze the next morning, so that makes three regions namely Banjar District, Banjarbaru and Banjarmasin shrouded by haze,” he said.
