15 teams to compete in President’s Cup table tennis tournament

SIBU: Ten men’s teams and five women’s teams have entered for the two-day Sibu Division Table Tennis President’s Cup which begins today at Sibu Ping Pong Hall in Merdeka Road.

The men’s teams are Wong Progress Enterprise, Sesco, KPJ Sibu, KTS, KX1720, RH Group, Dek Pu Construction Sdn Bhd, KSR SSMC, Dragster and Rejang Medical Centre.

The women’s teams are Key-Orient, Sesco, Rejang Medical Centre, RH Group and King Chuan Goldsmith.

Event organising secretary Desmond Ling described the response as satisfactory.

He said the championship was aimed at establishing networking and fostering closer rapport among table tennis players.

“Besides, we aim to promote fitness and healthy activities among the public through table tennis and to promote table tennis as an economical indoor sport,” he added.

The men’s team competition shall comprise of five singles games with a minimum of three players and a maximum of five players.

For women’s team category, the formats shall comprise of four singles games and one doubles with a minimum of two players and a maximum of four players.

For the prize structure, the men’s champion team will get RM250 plus a trophy and medals, RM200 for the first runner-up, RM150 and RM100 for the third and fourth positions.

For the women’s, the champion will get RM200 plus trophy and medal, RM150 for the first runner-up, and RM100 and RM80 for the third and fourth positions

Sibu Ping Pong Association (SPPA) honorary adviser Datuk Tiong Thai King is expected to grace the opening ceremony at 1.30pm while SPPA chairman Dr Clement Chen will close the event at 4.30pm on Oct 26.
