Alexis, Randell complete ISTD Associate Latin American exams

KUCHING: Sarawak’s top dancesport athletes Alexis Jap Hsiao Tding and Randell Lim Xiu Zhen have completed the internationally renowned UK- based Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) Associate in Latin American exams on Oct 19.

The exams was conducted by ISTD Fellow and Examiner Margaret Connon and coordinated by Malaysia DanceSport Federation (MYDF) sports director John Chong.

Randell, 19, is a student of Swinburne University of Technology here while 24-year-old Alexis, who is Unimas graduate is currently attached to the Chinese consulate’s office here and conducts dance classes in her leisure.

Eighteen of her students had also sat for the various ISTD medals tests.

According to Sarawak DanceSport Association president Chester Lim, Randell and Alexis have already obtained the ISTD Associate in Modern Ballroom last year.

Another Sarawak candidate Russell Lim Jian Liang had obtained both Latin American & Modern Ballroom ISTD Associate in one single sitting.

Lim, who is also Malaysia DanceSport Federation secretary-general, explained that Associate level candidates get to further enhance their understanding of dance techniques, basics and figures apart from gaining formal dance qualifications in the respective faculties.

A candidate must be at least 17 years old before he/she is accepted to sit for the Associate level examinations and must be 21 years of age before he/she is allowed to sit for the Licentiate level examinations.
