PM hopes more M’sians will excel in motor sports

SEPANG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said yesterday he hoped Malaysian motor sports athletes would achieve more success on the world stage.

He said that since the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) was opened over 15 years ago, homegrown talents had made Malaysians proud of their performance.

“This year, we have six Malaysian riders in action. I wish them all the best,” he said in the SIC programme book in conjunction with the 2014 Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix (Malaysian MotoGP).

The Malaysian MotoGP, being held from Oct 24 to 26 at the SIC, is expected to attract more than 100,000 spectators.

Najib said sports had been long a unifying factor in Malaysian society, and he commended everyone who had worked hard to enable Malaysian sportsmen achieve success.

“They have given all Malaysians another reason to rally behind our flag and hope for more success on the world stage for our motor sports athletes,” he said.

The Malaysian MotoGP, held in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014, is one of the highlights on the national calendar of notable events.

“I hope all our guests from near and far will have a great time enjoying our brand of hospitality,” Najib said.

The prime minister also congratulated the team at SIC and all their partners for once again successfully organising the Malaysian MotoGP. — Bernama
