Residents urged to be responsible for own safety and properties

TAWAU: Residents here have been advised to practise self-protection rather than relying on the police who are unable to protect the people 24 hours a day.

Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) committee Datuk Geoffrey Yee Lung Fook said some crimes were hard to prevent and there was a need to have basic precautions against them.

Geoffrey said it would create opportunities for the criminals if the people ignored their own safety, adding that everyone should be responsible for their own safety as well as their money and properties.

He advised the community to lock all doors and windows of their homes, especially when going out.

He also advised to lock and not to leave valuable items in vehicles to avoid vehicle break-ins.

According to him, education is a good start to prevent the younger generation from committing crimes.
