Sarawak’s first RTC to be operational by January 2015

MIRI: The country’s fifth Rural Transformation Centre (RTC) located in Bekenu town, 40km from here, will be operational by January 2015.

Sibuti member of parliament Ahmad Lai Bujang said at the moment the construction of the RTC was 90 per cent completed.

“The National Registration Department (NRD) and Agrobank are among the government agencies that have confirmed operating in the Bekenu RTC,” he told reporters after opening the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) carnival at Permymall here yesterday.

The RTC in Bekenu, under the Sibuti parliamentary constituency, will be Sarawak’s first and is expected to serve more than 40,000 residents in Bekenu town, which is well-known for its agricultural and fisheries products.

The RM8-million Bekenu RTC will be the country’s fifth after those in Johor, Melaka, Perak and Kelantan .

Ahmad Lai said the RTC’s soft opening is expected by January next year with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak being invited to officiate at the event. — Bernama
