MIRI:  Welfare, Women and Family Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah has been praised for her prompt response and action in attending to the welfare issues affecting the people.

To Persatuan Penduduk Mesra Rakyat (Marudi and Bakong) president Josephine Duyuk Tuah, the minister should be a shining example to community leaders in terms of caring for people under one’s charge.

Her comments came following the successful application of a medical aid fund for Barnavas Buran Eran, 35, a resident of Kampung Kuala Tutoh in Baram.

“Barnavas has been suffering from Hepatitis C and kidney failure. He is currently under the care of Miri Hospital,” Josephine said yesterday, adding that due to his condition, Barnavas could not work full-time and thus, did not have fixed income to support his medical treatment.

“He came to us for help and with the support from Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) acting president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, we wrote a letter to Fatimah with regard to Barnavas’ predicament sometime in June,” she said.

Josephine, who is also SPDP supreme council member, said Barnavas’ application was approved by the ministry in just three months.

“I thank both Fatimah and Tiong on their efforts to help the people in need. These are great leaders who should become the examples to others,” she added.

Meanwhile, Josephine said her association aimed to strengthen the relationship among members of different communities regardless of race and religion.

“Our mission is to help the poor and the needy in the Marudi and Bakong areas under Baram parliamentary constituency. The assistance can come in terms of welfare provision, counseling, education and health services,” she added.
