Nationwide Mosques Cleaning Campaign

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Cleanliness is demanded by Islam and all Muslims should observe personal hygiene and cleanliness of the environment, more so of our places of worship such as Mosques and religious halls, Brudirect reported.

The Mosque is a place for performing prayers in submission to Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala, and a Centre of Activities for the Muslim community.

In conjunction with the New Year 1436 Hijrah, the Mosque Affairs Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs, has held Cleaning Campaigns at Mosques, Suraus and Religious Halls throughout the country.

The Cleaning Campaign at the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Silver Jubilee Mosque in Kampong Jangsak, was officiated by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohammad bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman.

The ceremony also included a talk on The Importance of Mosque Cleanliness,” delivered by a Religious Officer from the Syariah Faculty of KUPUSB, Dr. Haji Noralizam bin Haji Aliakbar. Earlier, the mass Fardhu Subuh prayer and a Pre-dawn Lecture on The Advantage of Preserving Cleanliness,” were held at the mosque.

The Cleaning Campaign was also held at the Mohamed Bolkiah Mosque in Kampung Serusop. The campaign was launched by the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar. The ceremony was also highlighted with Tazkirah or religious talk after the mass Fardhu Subuh Prayer, followed by Kuliah Subuh (Pre-dawn Lecture).

In the Belait District, the focus of the cleaning campaign was at the Zainab Mosque in Lumut, Kuala Belait. The campaign there was launched by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Dato Seri Setia Awg Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohamad Yussof.

Among those present were a member of the Legislative Council, Yang Berhormat Haji Mohamad Shafiee bin Ahmad who is also the Ketua of Kampong Lumut Satu, and the Belait District Officer, Awg Haji Haris bin Osman.

According to the Belait District Mosque Officer, Haji Haslan bin Haji Hishamudin, the cleaning campaign held in conjunction with the Hijrah New Year celebration, formed the start of a self-transformation which he hoped would be beneficial to the community, as observing cleanliness is demanded in Islam.

Meanwhile, in the Tutong District, the main focal point of the cleaning campaign was the compound of the Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in Tutong Town. The campaign was launched by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Awg Haji Mohamad Abdoh bin Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Salam.

Before the campaign began, the congregants performed the mass Fardhu Subuh Prayer, which was followed by the Kuliah Subuh. The programme also included a religious discussion on “The Importance of Keeping Mosques Clean”. Also held at the function was a collection of donations for the Tutong District Orphans Fund and the Tutong District Mosque Takmir Activity Fund.

Among those present were a Legislative Council Member, Yang Berhormat Haji Ramli Bin Haji Lahid and the Tutong District Officer, Awg Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali.

The Cleaning Campaign was also held at the Utama Mohamad Salleh Mosque in Bangar Town, Temburong. The campaign was launched by the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Awg Haji Harun bin Haji Junid.

The aim of the campaign was to instil the spirit of voluntary work and cooperation among mosque officials, members of Mosque Administrative Committee, Mosque Congregants and local residents in together preserving the cleanliness and sanctity of the holy place of worship.
