KUCHING: One of the founding members of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in Sarawak, Idris Bohari, has quit the party.

In a statement, he declared his withdrawal from PKR with immediate effect and pledged full support to Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) under the leadership of Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

He cited his mother’s advice and the new Islamic year (Maal Hijrah) as the reasons for him to announce his resignation from PKR.

“My mother’s advice to me: ‘It is high time for you to stop getting involved as the opposition’s political dissident. Look, our own lives have become very difficult and your children have grown and need attention’.

“Therefore, on the blessed new year Hijrah, I, Idris Bohari, the deputy head of PKR Petra Jaya branch would like to announce my resignation and declare my withdrawal from the party effective immediately,” he stated.

He also said he would like to focus his attention now on building his family, and wants to put all the opposition’s political agenda behind him for good.

“With Allah’s permission, I will actively foster my future involvement in assisting any NGOs to work and contribute to the society. I will give my fullest support to BN Sarawak under the leadership of YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem,” he added.

Idris, 52, was one of PKR’s candidates in the 2011 state election. He contested in Pantai Damai, but lost to incumbent Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi of BN-PBB by 2,164 votes in a straight fight.

Idris has also previously held posts of secretary and information chief in PKR Sarawak liaison committee.
