KUALA LUMPUR: Moto3 racer, Amirul Hafiq Azmi’s future in racing appears to be in limbo when he was left out of the new Sepang International Circuit (SIC) team.

SIC chief executive officer Datuk Razlan Razali said currently, the SIC-AJO rider had yet to receive any offer from other teams for the season next year.

Recently, Razlan announced the formation of the SIC-Racing Team to replace SIC-AJO for the World Motorcycle Grand Prix next year.

SIC is putting up a new team wholly managed by itself with two riders, Zulfahmi Khairuddin and Jakub Kornfeil of the Czech Republic.

With the announcement, it was confirmed Amirul Hafiq will no longer be with SIC next season.

“I hope other sponsors will take him…after announcing Jakub (on Sunday), he (Hafiq) will no longer be with us. We do not want to be too sentimental and emotional about the fate of the Malaysian rider but this is the reality of motoring sports.

“We had expected more from Amirul Hafiq, he was given the opportunities to

race at the world championship, and looking back, he had raced two years in Red Bull Rookies and one year in the Spanish CEV Repsol.

“We have seen that even European riders are terminated during mid-season if they failed to show the desired performance and generate revenue for the team.

“…but SIC has been investing to raise local riders and we really have to think hard about renewing his contract,” he told reporters.

After 17 races, Amirul Hafiq finally collected three points after taking the 13th position at the 2014 Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang on Sunday. — Bernama
