Youth officer to seek more funds for basketball tourney next year

KAPIT: The enthusiastic response to the ‘3 on 3 basketball competition organized by the Foochow Association Youth Wing last week has prompted the Youth and Sports officer Jack Janda here to apply for more fund to organize a bigger tournament next year.

“It’s most heartening that tournament has not just attracted the youth and monopolised by the Chinese players. In this competition the youngest player was 15 years old while the oldest was 50 years old.

I am also happy that Malay and Dayak players also took part in the competition,” Jack said at the closing cum prizes giving ceremony on Sunday night at the Bletih Stadium.

Besides basketball the Youth and Sports office here would work with various youth clubs and sports clubs here to organise sports events here he added.

A total of 25 teams including several bumiputera teams took part in tournament.

Poh Sng Café won the tournament, RH Electrical and Air-Conditioners Services finished second while Poh Sing Ching and GQ Café were third and fourth respectively.

Among those present at the function were assistant sports officer, Roger Levoh, Pemanca Yong Thu Fook, Kapitan MickyNgu, youth chief Foochow Association, Stanley Ling, women chief Foochow Association,
Wong Kie Ing, youth chief Chiang Chuan Association and Yap Po Leh.
