KUALA LUMPUR: Women should capitalise on opportunities provided by the government in Budget 2015 to empower them, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri said yesterday.

She said the government had initiated a lot of programmes for women to spur their advancement and raise their standard of living.

“The budget has allocated a lot for women, and that’s why we also want the non-governmental organisations to use the allocations to empower women through various programmes.

“We want more women to become leaders and decision makers as the nation moves towards developed-nation status,” she said after opening the Women Extraordinaire Forum 2014, here.

The two-day forum is participated by many prominent women leaders in Asia, both from the private and publice sectors, and is a platform for women to develop networking, exchange ideas and sharing experiences.
