LAHAD DATU: The logistics support at Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone) ensures the preparedness of the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) and the government in maintaining security in the country.

Royal Malaysian Police Logistics Department director Commissioner of Police Dato’ Pahlawan Zulkifli Abdullah said the existence of Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom), which is supported by logistics, would increase the effectiveness of the National Blue Ocean Strategy.

Zulkifli said his visit to the General Operations Force (GOF) posts yesterday was aimed to ensure that refurbishment works and maintenance, and also acquisition of equipment and logistics for deployment in the east coast of Sabah were running smoothly.

“I am very satisfied with the refurbishment and maintenance works and hope logistics could increase public confidence towards the preparedness of RMP in ensuring the security of the country.

“We (RMP) appreciate the concerns of the government in enhancing national security by providing allocation for the acquisition of equipment and logistical equipment, including the construction of buildings and infrastructure to strengthen RMP in Sabah’s east coast,” he said.

According to Zulkifli, the government had in 2013, allocated RM92 million for the construction of temporary police stations at seven locations costing RM32 million, and RM60 million for equipment and logistics.

To further enhance security in Sabah’s east coast, the government in 2014 allocated RM31 million to RMP to repair and maintain 25 GOF posts costing RM10 million, and RM21 million for equipment and logistics.

“We are very grateful to the government for giving priority to security in Sabah, where in Budget 2015 the government has allocated RM80 million for the construction of a police station in Inanam.

“The government has also provided for the construction of a battalion headquarters, a GOF base in Beluran, costing RM280 million. We hope the additional assets and logistics will strengthen RMP in Sabah,” he said.

Zulkifli also expressed hope that all parties, including the public, would continue to work together to improve security in the country, particularly in Sabah’s east coast.

Earlier, Zulkifli launched the all-terrain-vehicles (ATVs) which are suitable for use in challenging areas such as in oil palm estates and offshore.

The ATVs were contributed by other agencies for the police to strengthen security in the state.

Also accompanying him during the visit were State Police Commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman and Sabah Brigade Commander SAC Kamarul Bahrin Mohamad.
