1Malaysia Perwani Community targets 100,000 groups by end of 2015

JASIN: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development is targeting 100,000 Persatuan Wanita 1Malaysia (Perwani) Community groups by the end of 2015.

Its Deputy Minister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun said since the community was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in Putrajaya on March 17 last year, a total of 8,528 Perwani groups have been established with a total membership of 117,238.

“The establishment of Perwani Community is to promote women as agents of transformation at the community level as well as to transmit and disseminate accurate information which are government related to the grassroot levels,” she told reporters after launching the Melaka state ‘2014 Sukarelawan Jiwa Malaysia programme’, here yesterday.

She said through the community, Perwani members would be able to gain various benefits and knowledge and relationship between communities strengthened through programmes and activities undertaken.

She urged women in the country regardless of age, race or religion to establish their respective groups of between 10 to 20 people. — Bernama
