KUCHING: The Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) have taken a drastic step in dropping Bosnia striker Muamer Salibasic, seeing that the import has failed to recover from his injury in time for the new season of Malaysian League.

Announcing this on Wednesday, FAS president Datuk Sudarsono Osman said the decision was made following an agreement between both parties.

“The specialist who was treating Salibasic told us the disappointing news that the player needed a longer time to recover. As such, FAS have no alternative but to let him go,” he said.

Salibasic sustained a serious knee injury in January during a Super League match against ATM.

Apart from receiving treatment here, the Bosnian also flew down to Kuala Lumpur to meet a specialist there.

“On behalf of FAS, I would like to record my heartfelt thanks to Salibasic for his contribution to the Sarawak squad,” Sudarsono said, hoping that the import would recover as soon as possible so that he could resume his career with a new side.

Salibasic joined Sarawak last year and had been playing a vital role in helping Crocs win the Premier League title in the same year, as well as a promotion into the Super League.

Meanwhile, the state squad conducted a trial for two local import hopefuls, namely Kedah striker Mohd Faizal Abu Bakar, 24, and his DRB-Hicom counterpart Khairul Naim Mahyuddin, 26, at Stadium Negeri on Wednesday.
