Indonesian killed in two-motorcycle collision

KUCHING: An Indonesian national was killed while three others were injured following a crash between two motorcycles along Jalan Astana late Wednesday afternoon.

The incident happened around 5pm when a motorcycle carrying two Indonesian men went out of control and swung into the opposite lane and crashed into a second motorcycle carrying a middle-aged couple.

The incident left the Indonesian motorcyclist, identified as 37-year-old Rianto, with serious head injuries while the local motorcyclist, aged 53, suffered a broken right leg. Both pillion riders escaped with only minor scrapes. The seriously-injured Rianto was rushed to the Sarawak General Hospital where he succumbed around 9.30pm the same day.

Police are investigating the incident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act.
