Penang govt will defend legitimacy of PPS until decision from court — Lim

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang state government will continue to defend the legitimacy of its Voluntary Patrol Team (PPS) until the team is proven illegal in court, said Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

He said if it was true that the team that was set up by the state government was illegal, why is the Attorney-General and police taking such a long time to take PPS to court.

“The extension of bail on 157 PPS personnel detained on Aug 31, showed the Attorney-General and authorities do not have strong evidence when detaining PPS personnel. This is the second time police bail has been extended.

“If it is illegal, it would be easy to charge. Why is it there are no charges by the parties concerned. I want to clarify that the act of arresting them was baseless,” he told a press conference here yesterday. — Bernama
