KUANTAN: A youth whose head was stuck with a machete, five centimetres deep after the blade of a machete used by his friend came off the handle before flying into his head when they were clearing bushes in a plantation at Felcra Tembeling Tengah, Jerantut on Thursday was reported stable after a four-hour operation yesterday.

However, Mohd Ridhuan Mat Sahor, 20, who is now being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) is still unconscious after the operation to remove the machete blade.

His father, Mat Sahor Ahmad, 43, said his son underwent an operation at HTAA at about 8 last night and doctors involved said he might have difficulty speaking as the nerve was still swollen.

“But the brain is not damaged although it was hit a bit by the tip of the machete and the victim’s sight is also not affected,” he said.

His son might be treated for a month before being discharged, Mat Sahor said yesterday.

“My son managed to call me after the accident so as not to be angry with his friend ‘Din’ as it did not happen on purpose.

“All we hope for is Mohd Ridhuan’s good health and recovery as his wife is four months’ pregnant,” he said.

In the 8am incident, Mohd Ridhuan was hit by the blade of a machete used by his friend which came off the handle before flying into the head of the victim.

The victim was taken on a motorcycle for treatment at the Kuala Tahan Health Clinic with the machete blade stuck in his head.

He was later referred to Jerantut Hospital before being taken to Sultan Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh and later to HTAA for an operation to remove the blade. — Bernama
