KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Examinations Syndicate (LPM) will launch a special operation dubbed ‘Operasi Payung’ at all flood prone areas to ensure smooth running of the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations which will begin on Monday.

The operation will involve 15 agencies, including the Education Ministry, Health Ministry, National Security Council (MKN), Royal Malaysian Police, Civil Defence Department, Fire and Rescue Department and Social Welfare Department (JKM).

“LPM will also seek MKN’s advice to ensure safety at any flood-hit examination centres. If the safety aspect is secured, the examination will be held at the centres as scheduled.

“If compromised, the examination will be held at a safe alternative place,” LPM said in a statement to Bernama yesterday.

While stressing that the safety of candidates and personnel involved in handing the examination would remain a priority, the LPM said candidates, who were stranded or having difficulties to reach the examination centre due to floods, would be allowed to take shelter at the nearest examination centre.

A cancellation or postponement of the examination paper would be the last resort and the decision about the matter would be announced through the media, the statement said.

LPM said maximum security control would also be given to the examination papers to prevent any leaks.

“In case of floods, the examination papers will be transferred to an alternative vault with the Education Ministry and the police providing the security control,” the statement said.

Candidates in flood prone areas were also advised to stay at their friend’s or relative’s house to enable them to sit for the examination as schedule. — Bernama
