RAWANG: Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) says bookings for its newly launched Axia have hit 44,000 units, exceeding the earlier target of 30,000 by year-end.
“To date, 9,000 Axia units have been delivered to buyers, and due to the high demand, we are taking steps to ensure production can meet the demand,” president and chief executive officer Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh told reporters at the presentation of prizes for the “Perodua Junior Safety Squad” contest at company headquarters here today.
It was reported earlier that deliveries of the Axia coud be delayed by up to six months due to a bottleneck in the supply of parts from vendors, although the automaker is hopeful the delay could be reduced to 1.5 months by year-end.
On the RM70 million Sustainable Mobility Fund annnounced in Budget 2015, he said Perodua has no plans to be involved in electric car production but will continue to focus on the energy efficient vehicle segment.
“There is still a lot of room for improvement, we will continue to develop the internal combustion engine to make its fuel efficiency and handling match an electric vehicle’s,” he said.
The Perodua Junior Safety Squad campaign is aimed at creating greater safety awareness among primary students, in schools and at home. -Bernama
