KUCHING: A security guard of an all-girl secondary school in the city was arrested on Thursday after he was caught on camera stealing from the teachers’ staff room.

The 36-year-old from Jalan Dagok Barat was picked up by police at the school’s guard house around 6.30pm after a report was lodged by his supervisor following a complaint by several teachers earlier in the week that their desk drawers had been forcibly opened.

Sources said the suspect was positively identified with footage from the closed-circuit television (CCTV) system installed in the teachers’ room, showing him forcing open the main door and picking the locked drawers.

The guard’s game was given away when police conducting a search of the guard house recovered a mobile phone charger, which was among the items reported stolen that day.

The suspect has been placed under remand to facilitate further investigation.

In an unrelated case, a lorry driver and his attendant were arrested yesterday morning after they were caught on camera pilfering stock from their employer.

The suspects, both 27, were about to leave a factory in Bintawa to deliver goods when they were stopped by a clerk, who ordered an inspection of their lorry after the pair was caught out of line on security camera.

They were seen loading stock that they were not authorised to and four boxes of canned goods worth over RM500 were subsequently found stashed in the vehicle and resulted in the pair being handed over to police for further action.
