SK Green Road second in Scrabble nationwide

KUCHING: SK Green Road recently bagged second position at the National-level Scrabble for Primary School Competition held during the English Unity Carnival 2014 in Bukit Gambang Resort City, Kuantan.

The three-member team of Alyssa Yap Xin Yi, Ernestine Kow and Dayang Zeti Kartini Abang Zainuddin competed against 15 other teams to vie for the Tan Sri Dato Muhyiddin Yassin Trophy.

The three-day carnival is an annual programme organised by the Education Ministry’s Co-Curriculum and Arts Division involving primary and secondary school students.

The objective is to nurture greater interest among students to master the English Language.

The carnival that began on Oct 18 saw students from primary and secondary schools across the nation competing in five English proficiency competitions.

For Primary School category, the events include Action Song, Storytelling, Poetry Recitation, Scrabble and Public Speaking while in the Secondary School category, there were Public Speaking and Choral Speaking.

In the Public Speaking for Primary School competition, SJK Chung Hua No 6 Year Six pupil Joshua Jong Qian Rong beat 15 other contestants to bag the first prize.

The school also participated in the Action Song for Primary School competition and took the fourth position.

Other schools from the state that took part in the carnival are SJK Chung Hua No 1, SJK Tiong Hin (Sibu) as well as SMK Columbia and SMK Chung Hua (CF), both from Miri.
