PENAMPANG: Penampang Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCCI) has praised the police for their efficiency in solving a series of armed robbery cases occurred lately and thereby preventing illegal activities from being carried out here.

Its president Datuk Ling Tiong Chai said the shootout incident in the Penampang New Township on Thursday that killed two suspected armed robbers responsible for at least three robbery cases had shown the police capability in solving serious crime.

“This has made us more confident in the police, and we hope that the police would recover all the firearms used during the robberies to prevent them from falling into the hands of other criminals that would use it for the same purpose.”

He said the recent spate of armed robberies occurred in Tuaran and in Kepayan had sparked fears among PCCCI, the business sector and the public here, fearing they would become the next victim.

Hence, Ling hoped that the police would continue to perform their duties in protecting the safety and interest of the public and the business sector with high dedication to ensure better economic development in the State.

“After all, our economy will surely be badly affected without security and stability, and the effects will have an impact on all levels of our society,” he said in a press statement released yesterday.

Meanwhile, Ling also hoped that the public would not speculate further on the incident as it would negatively impact on the business sector operating in the new township.

“We have received many complaints from our members and the business operators (in Penampang) last night, who fear that the rumors circulating on social media will further harm their interest.

“As such we decided to issue a statement to urge the public to cooperate for common good.”

Also present at the PCCCI meeting includes its secretary Kou Li Zhang, vice president Yu Yong Choon and six other committee members.
