KUCHING: A woman was arrested yesterday in connection with the theft of valuables belonging to a senior police officer’s wife more than a year ago.
The 31-year-old suspect was picked up from a house in Kampung Semariang Lama at about 10am by a team from district police headquarters following a tip-off.
Initially, police could not find the woman when they reached the house, but after hearing noises coming from above them, they found the suspect hiding in the ceiling.
She was then taken to the district police headquarters at Jalan Simpang Tiga.
Sources said the suspect belonged to a group of all-female pickpockets that targeted the wife of a senior police officer at the washroom of Kuching International Airport in April last year, making off with her purse and mobile phone.
Although the alleged mastermind of the pickpocket ring was arrested shortly after, police continued to track down her accomplices, who went into hiding following the incident.
