Embrace education now or face bleak future, students told

MIRI: Every student must realise that they determine their own future careers and must do their best in their studies to ensure they have better lives.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau, who gave this advice, said there are some students who dislike schooling without realising that only through education can their lives be improved.

“Some of you may hate going to schools, some of you may not enjoy what you are doing at the moment. But, trust me, education is very important as it leads you towards a better and brighter future,” he said at the SMK Long Lama Form Six convocation day in Long Lama on Friday.

Parents and teachers, Dennis said are only responsible in teaching, supporting, educating, motivating and encouraging them to go to schools and succeed in their lives.

“Your future is in your own hands. You decide what you want to be or how you want to live your life when you grow up. If you do not take your studies seriously now, you will end up with nothing and you cannot blame your parents or teachers for that,” he added.

Also presence at the convocation were the school’s senior assistant Gabriele T’ng, Penghulu Desmond Yap Cheng Siang, Kapitan Yeo Kee Siang, the school’s PTA chairman Wilson Nyalang.

Dennis also gave a RM10,000 grant from his Minor Rural Project (MRP) allocation to the school and promise another RM10,000 next year.
