KUCHING: As adoption of the cloud enables organisations to move with speed on innovation, it is not only having a significant impact on enterprises, but also on governments and startups.

Aman Neil Dokania, vice president and general manager of Cloud Division for HP Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ), highlighted at the recent Cloud Expo Asia and Data Centre World event that while cloud is certainly helping organisations do that, it is not just about cloud, but that other mega trends like big data, mobility, security, social and internet play a part.

He noted that collectively, these are referred to as a new style of IT and provides the opportunity for enterprises, businesses and governments, to meaningfully leverage these trends to transform their business activities.

Aman observed that startups who are leveraging cloud and other network trends, are streaming up fast and they are overtaking big traditional enterprises by scaling up in a significantly short time.

He explained that these are impacts that we see today in the marketplace which is resulting from the leverage of technology.

Technology has never been aligned as strongly through business from a daily perspective as it is today.

As such, Aman highlighted that it is a great opportunity for vendors like HP, and every IT organisation to leverage on this.

“It is all about business service innovation, and that’s where HP’s focus (is).

“This is not an individual vendor effort, it’s a community effort and that’s the reason we have taken the approach of OpenStack and it’s very important for HP to drive that in the industry,” Aman noted.

“Now the challenge though is, all the customers and the way vendors operate such as HP, we are very invested in keeping traditional IT,” he said, adding that traditional IT would not go away but that we now live in two worlds.

Aman noted that it all depends on how effectively entities can take their first step towards the new world of cloud along with other mega trends and be successful with that and balance these two worlds in a way that is effective for them and brings that opportunity.

On HP’s website, the group explained that HP had joined with the OpenStack, Cloud Foundry, and other open source cloud offerings to give enterprise customers complete access to the innovative, high quality, state-of-the-art technology they need to remain competitive and successful in their markets.

In regards to HP Helion products, they are based on OpenStack, a different cloud-computing software standard that has its own set of application programming interfaces (APIs).

“With HP’s full weight behind the OpenStack project and with OpenStack technology as the core of the HP Helion portfolio, enterprises can manage complexity, attain interoperability, and achieve consistent security and governance,” HP highlighted.

Today, HP is the single largest contributor as a corporation to the coding of open stack and on that note, Aman revealed that they plan to bring all this innovation in OpenStack and provide an easy way for customers to leverage on the technology for rapid innovation.

“So, OpenStack is growing very fast and we are very confident that moving forward, a lot of the cloud adoption will be driven through the innovation that happens in OpenStack,” he affirmed.
