PENAMPANG: Two men sustained minor injuries after they were swept away by water currents while washing a pick-up truck by a river at Kampung Notorus in Penampang-Tambunan road here yesterday.

It is said that the duo, in their 20s, were washing the Mitsubishi Triton at the river bank when the water currents suddenly swept the vehicle together with them some 30 meters away, believed to be due to bad weather, around 2pm.

It is learnt that one of the men managed to swim to the riverbank to seek help while his friend held on to the vehicle for several minutes.

Penampang Fire and Rescue station chief Jamaluddin Hussin said a team was immediately deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 2.10pm.

“We managed to rescue the victim who only sustained minor injury.

“He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in an ambulance for treatment and is reported to be in stable condition,” he said.
