SIBU: Sibu Thumb’s Up Badminton Academy will hold its first ever training camp at its premises in Sibu Central Market from Nov 24 to Dec 5.
Academy owner Martin Tio said it was aimed at grooming young players as well as enhancing the popularity of the game.
“It’s also to ensure there will be a supply of fresh players once the seniors retire.
80 novice players aged 10 to 14 are expected to attend a free trial on Nov 15 and 16.
Twenty will be selected for the camp to be conducted by two professional coaches.
Entry fee is RM300 per person.
After the camp, all the players will compete in the Under-12, Under-15 and Under-18 tournament scheduled for Dec 8.
Top players will have a chance to represent Sibu in major tournaments in 2015 with expenses sponsored by the academy.
