RM2 million for improving rural roads in Nangka

SIBU: About RM2 million has been allocated for improving roads in longhouse areas and villages in Nangka constituency this year.

Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee said all the projects under this allocation would be completed by this year.

He added the funding came from Marris (Malaysian Road Records Information System Fund) and the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development.

“The first phase of tar-sealing, a 2km stretch leading to Rh Bungkong Amoi, Mile 19 Cocoa Road near here, costing RM500,000 was completed last year.

“The second phase which involved tar-sealing of another 2km has started and is to be completed by this year, also costing RM500,000,” he said when inspecting the newly tar-sealed 800-metre stretch leading to Rh Melisa, Salim Belalang Road yesterday.

He said that the road upgrading work to Rh Melissa cost about RM260,000.

Dr Annuar was accompanied by Yong Sin Ho, a technician from Public Works Department (PWD) here.

Longhouse chief Melisa Ilong said before the upgrading, it was a gravel road and difficult for people to move about especially during wet spell.

Checking the road condition at Rh Dick Ijau, Dr Annuar said the proposed works to upgrade the road cost about RM90,000.

As for Rh Asing Sanyut, Dr Annuar said about RM200,000 would be spent to improve a road there.

On the community hall at Rh Dick Ijau under Basic Infrastructure Projects (PIAS) costing about RM100,000, he said works was progressing smoothly and expected to be completed this year.

He also inspected the progress of work on the fencing at Surau Al Mustaqm, Bougainvilla Road.
