Education Ministry launches Financial Services cluster

PUTRAJAYA: The Education Ministry yesterday launched the Financial Services cluster under the Industry Centre of Excellence (ICoE) programme to boost the marketability of local graduates.

Deputy Education Minister P Kamalanathan said ICoE was a ‘signature’ programme for the ministry and a model for the success of the relationship between the universities and industry.

The Financial Services cluster is the 10th under the ICoE which include construction, healthcare, hospitality and tourism and information technology and communication.

The programme is supported by leading corporate organisations and leading universities and ICoE is one of the programmes to support The National Graduate Employability Blueprint (2012-2017) aimed at developing human capital through research, development and commercialisation.

Among those who have pledged their support for the Financial Cluster are Universiti Utara Malaysia and six companies, namely Deloitte Malaysia, Bank Simpanan Nasional, PricewaterhouseCoopers, OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Bhd, Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri Malaysia and AmBank Group.

“The role of the leading Universities is to provide graduates for training and later join the workforce of the industries they choose,” he said at launch of the Financial Services cluster and ICoE annual conference, here yesterday. — Bernama
