KUALA LUMPUR: The number of companies registered for the Goods and Services Tax (GST) stood at 125,216 as of Nov 5, an increase of 2,497 from the previous day, said the Royal Malaysian Customs Department.

In a statement, it said the data showed a continuing rise in the number of companies registering for the GST, with the Dec 31 deadline. The government’s target is to get 140,000 companies to register under the new tax structure to be implemented on April 1, 2015.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had said there would be no turning back on the implementation of the GST.

Judging from the daily increase in the number of new companies registering for the GST, he was confident there would be about 200,000 companies GST-registered by year-end. — Bernama
