KOTA KINABALU: Chairman of Sino KadazanDusunMurut Sabah (Sino KDM) Association Datuk Johnny Goh has asked the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman to return the Sino native identity as it has become an issue with their Bumiputera status.

“I hope our Chief Minister will return our ‘identity’ as Sino natives, as we are neither Kadazan, Dusun Murut nor Chinese, and it is not proper for parents of Sino natives to choose either one,” Goh said in his speech during the Sino KDM Night held at Putera Theatre Ballroom here, last Friday night.

Goh mentioned that it was stated in ‘Cap.64, Definition of Native’ that Sino is recognised as a race or ethnic and should be identified as Bumiputera or native.

“We hope our identity will be returned to us through the Chief Minister as we are facing problems when it comes to ASB management, registration into local institutions such as UiTM, native land arrangement, and Bumiputera status,” he explained.

The Sino KDM Night, which was officiated by the Chief Minister, also saw a Sino Beauty Pageant competition which was participated by twelve Sino women from all over Sabah.

Musa took the opportunity to say that the government would provide continuous support and attention to ethnic and culture associations such as the Sino KDM.

He also encouraged non-governmental organisations and associations related to culture and ethnicity to involve more youths into their activities in efforts to encourage the 1Malaysia and unity spirit among Sabahans.

Musa also announced that the state government would donate RM100,000 to the Sino KDM Association next year.
