Police to act on issues raised by public within a week

KOTA KINABALU: The city police conducted another round of public engagement programme dubbed ‘Oscar’ with the local community on Saturday night.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said the four-hour high profile policing programme, carried out between 8pm to midnight, involved police officers and personnel at seven locations, namely Karamunsing, Menggatal, Tanjung Aru, Alam Mesra, Inanam, Kota Kinabalu and Luyang police stations.

In Karamunsing area, the police had a dialogue session with sundry shop and food stall operators at Sadong Jaya. The operators voiced out the issue of theft by children, who stole from food stalls, as well as drug addicts that linger nearby.

At Menggatal, around 300 people, including Karambunai assemblywoman Datuk Jainab Ahmad, the police and residents patrolled Kampung Bandulan to gain a deeper understanding of the issues faced by villagers.

The police are striving to overcome criminal activities, drug abuse and security issues at the villages in Menggatal.

Meanwhile, the public, hoteliers and 24-hour convenience store operators have requested the police to patrol the town area more frequently in Tanjung Aru.

Similarly, businesses and visitors at Sulaman Central and Alamesra have called on the police to have more frequent patrols in the area and to look into drug issues in the area.

On the other hand, police officers and personnel from Inanam police station visited security booths at Sri Apartment, City Apartment, Taman Casa Palma and Pearl Town where they offered security tips to the guards.

The officer and personnel also conducted a walkabout at Inanam Taipan.

In Kota Kinabalu, a dialogue session was held between the police and some 25 residents at Likas Lama, Kampung Likas. The residents raised the issue of children still lingering around in the village after midnight between 1am to 3am, as well as drug distributors and drug addicts at Kampung Bakau.

Police officer and personnel at Luyang police station held security dialogues with the resident committee of Kampung Cenderakasih. The resident committee hoped that the police would advise the teenagers who were still lingering around between 11.30pm and 3am.

Chandra said all the issues raised during the engagement programme would be acted on by the police within a week in order to create a safe environment.

He said the high profile policing activity also achieved a positive impact during the two-way communication.
