Bakery shop worker charged with giving support to group

SEPANG: A bakery shop worker was charged in the Sessions Court here for providing support to the IS militant group.

Mohammd Na’im Abd Rashid, 26, was alleged to have entered Syria through a Qatar Airways flight from the KL2 International Airport (klia2) to Syria via Istanbul, Turkey for the benefit of the group.

The accused, who was unpresented, was alleged to have committed the offence at the klia2 international departure hall immigration counter on Dec 28 last year until April 7 this year.

He was charged under section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code, which carries a life imprisonment or jail term not exceeding 30 years or with fine and liable to forfeiture of any property used or intended to be used in connection with the commission of the offence, upon conviction.

No plea was recorded when the charge was read by a court interpreter in front of Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim.

Deputy public prosecutor Iznina Hanim Hashim applied for a date to be set to enable the case to be transferred to the High Court. The court fixed Dec 15 this year for a mention. — Bernama
