Labourer jailed for overstaying

MIRI: A foreign labourer of an estate here was yesterday sentenced by the Session’s Court here to two months’ jail for overstaying in the state.

Jajang Mahidi, 27, from Kampung Pungangan, Jawa Barat, Indonesia was charged under Section 15 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Amendment 2002), punishable under Section 6 (3) of the same Act as his social visit pass had expired.

He is also likely to be fined RM10,000 or five years’ jail, or both upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, the accused was detained in Bekenu Bazaar at 3.25pm on Oct 24 on suspicion of being a foreigner.

During police interrogation, he was found to have overstayed in the state after his social visit pass expired.

He was arrested and brought to Bekenu Police Station for further questioning.
