Man held for illegal possession of air rifles

JASIN: The police have detained a shop assistant in connection with illegal possession of two air rifles in the Alor Gajah-Melaka-Jasin highway near Merlimau here.

Two policemen nabbed the 32-year-old man from a car after flagging down the vehicle while the suspect’s accomplice fled towards an oil palm plantation nearby.

The air rifles, together with three boxes of amunition were found in the vehicle in the incident about 1.40pm on Nov 4.

Jasin police chief DSP Muhd Nur Hishamuddin Hashim said initial investigations revealed the suspect had bought the air rifles at RM300 each from a man at Felda Jelai 3, Gemas in Negeri Sembilan.

“The suspect told police he bought the air rifles to hunt wild fowls,” he told reporters at the Jasin police headquarters here yesterday.

He said the man, who was remanded until tonorrow, tested positive for syabu and had two previous records for drugs. — Bernama
