BLHD Check Alleged Pollution in Barito River

Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan: Head of the Banjarmasin Regional Environmental Agency H Hamdi said his staff will immediately check the alleged pollution in the Barito River by a ship carrying fuel oil these days, Antaranews reported.

“I only knew about the events, and news from reporters. But we will immediately check,” he said to Antaranews Kalsel in Banjarmasin on Sunday.

According to him, the Regional Environmental Agency (BLHD) staff has been commissioned to carry out checks, such as by taking the Barito river water to be brought to the laboratory.

“If indeed the Barito river water contamination due to fuel oil freighter owned by Pertamina, then it should be responsible,” said Hamdi.

Meanwhile, information from the people in the last two days the Barito River water conditions other than usual. It smell pungent as gasoline.

The smell is suspected because of leaking of Landing Craft Tank (LCT) Duta Armada loaded with about 1.8 tons of premium, which is across the Depo Pertamina Banjarmasin.

Banjarmasin Resort Police also deal with the alleged leak of the LCT, because it was feared cause a fire.
