KUCHING: Dewi Liana Seriestha has certainly proven that she is more than just a pretty face.

During a special gala at Four Points by Sheraton Hotel here on Saturday, the newly-crowned Miss Malaysia/World 2014 wowed the audience with her powerful vocal performance, as well as her elegance in showcasing a delectable collection of traditional attire and evening gowns.

The event opened with a dance performance by the members of the state Culture and Arts Department, followed by a video presentation of Dewi’s journey to becoming Malaysia’s representative to the global pageant scheduled in London next month.

As the stunning 25-year-old made her grand entry after that, everybody’s head turned towards her.

The highlight of the evening was the exclusive preview of her couture slated for the London pageant final, comprising a one-of-a-kind evening dress designed by Malaysian designers Bill Keith, Amelia Hassan and Sposka by Rizky; and a national costume by Emil Hamlyn with accessories by Ricky Racha.

The programme proceeded with a screening of her Miss World’s ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ project, which describes her plan of establishing a heritage gallery that would feature, among other things, the Bidayuh Semban ring ladies. It also includes a special performance ‘Dances of the World’, which will be up for evaluation and be presented in London.

At the gala, Dewi also presented two songs which she would perform for Miss World’s talent segment – a classical number from ‘Phantom of the Opera’ and a ballad ‘You Raise Me Up’ which saw her singing with her singer-composer father, Yudhi Seriestha.

Dewi certainly did not forget her supporters. At the event, there were also ‘Best Dress’ awards as well as other fun titles for her fans. Christina Lyana clinched ‘The Most Supportive Fan’ title and Nathalie Le-cie was named ‘The Most Protective Fan’, while Mia Saches was ‘The Most Motivational Fan’.

Guests also took the opportunity to take photos with the beauty queen.

Among those present at the grand event were Miss Malaysia/World national director Datuk Anna Lim, Dayak Bidayuh National Association president Datu Ik Pahon Joyik and members of fan club Dewi Nation.

Dewi left for London yesterday where she would undergo the preliminary events beginning Nov 20 and leading up to the grand event on Dec 14.
