LAHAD DATU: An Indonesian man was hacked to death while his wife and an employee were seriously injured in an attack by a new employee in Bukit Piton Forest Reserve in Ulu Segama on Friday, leaving them fighting for their lives in the hospital her.

District police chief, ACP Hamzah Ahmad, when contacted yesterday, said the deceased was identified as Rahman bin Puma, 47, a subcontractor with Segama Forest Heritage.

Hamzah said initial police investigation showed the deceased and his wife were believed to have been attacked by his new employee, a 33-year-old foreigner, who had only begun working for the deceased for one day, because of a personal grudge.

“When we received information on the incident at about 7 am on Friday, we immediately rushed a police team to the scene.

“Initial investigation revealed that at about 6.30 am on that day, the deceased, his wife and his six-year-old son had gone to start his car engine.

“Several minutes later, the son ran home where there were six other workers, shouting “bapak mati” (father is dead).

“Two of the workers, identified as Akhbar and Andi, went to the scene and found their employer and his wife lying in a pool of blood,” Hamzah said.

While trying to help, the two workers were also attacked, which resulted in Akhbar losing a ear. The suspect then chased after the other worker before fleeing the scene.

The Rahman’s wife and Akhbar were later rushed to the hospital by another worker.

“After the incident, a CID police team led by Inspector Abdul Muthalib Harun managed to arrest the suspect at about 8.30 pm within the vicinity of the scene.

“They seized a machete, believed to have been used in the incident,” he said, adding that the case would be investigated under Section 302 and Section 326 of the Penal Code.
