Michael and Laura claim SCC titles

SAMARAHAN: Seasoned campaigner Michael Lee was crowned the new men’s gross champion of the 2nd Samarahan Country Club (SCC) Club Championship SCC here yesterday.

The handicap 6 golfer carded a two-day total of 164 (86, 78) to finish one stroke ahead of youngster Winston Goh who edged Nick Lau into third spot on count back (OCB) after both returned a similar score of 165.

Lee received the Challenge Trophy plus merchandise voucher worth RM2,500, a replica, green jacket and a complementary car parking bay.

Two strokes further back in fourth place was another youngster Samdrick Yeo while the fifth to seventh placings were decided OCB, with Sim Khee Hian, Then Su Yew, Joseph Biandoi finishing in that order after carding a similar 169 score.

Lau Chai Seng (170) was eighth, Chow Tung Leh (171) ninth and Bong Tee Yen (173) claimed the 10th spot.

Newcomer Phang Min Jan and 32-handicapper enjoyed a good weekend at SCC, returning a two-day total score of 136 to lift the men’s nett title and walk away with a trophy, RM1,100 merchandise voucher.

The runner-up was Dominic Dado who returned a 148 score.

The club’s oldest member Augustin Lee finished in third place after beating Simon Sinang OCB. Both carded a 149.

The fourth to 10th positions were occupied by Roland Ling (151), Ahmad Kamal (152), John Chen (153), Peter Usang (154), SCC president Brian Chien Chai Ung (156, OCB) and Mohd Jirin (156).

Meanwhile, state Perlis Sukma golfer Laura Goh Hui Ee, who played with a handicap 10, carded a 78 on Saturday and a 80 yesterday for a total of 158 to lift the Women’s Gross title.

She received the SCC Club Championship Challenge Trophy plus merchandise vouchers worth RM800 and a replica.

Second was Tan Chlo Wee who finished 12 strokes behind the champion.

The women’s nett champion was Wong Yen Hua whose two-day total score was 154.

She walked away with a RM500 merchandise voucher.

Latifah Bujang was the runner-up with her score of 155.

There were no winners for the hole-in-one prizes including a Rolex deep-sea watch worth RM30,000 and a Rolex Ladies Date worth RM19,900 at Hole 3 & 17, and RM10,000 for Hole 5 & 15.
