SIBU: Hot favourite V8 FC scored maximum points from all their seven league matches to lift the Sibu Football Division I championship which ended at Tun Zaidi Stadium here recently.

Busna Nazario FC edged TZ FC for runner-up spot with a superior goal difference after both teams were tied on 16 points.

Rascom, with one win, and Singgah Selalu, without a single point, occupied the basement.

Sibu FA secretary Abdul Hajis Abdullah, who had predicted V8’s victory, expressed satisfaction with the tournament in serving to lift the standard of the sport here.

The champions, who comprised mostly seasoned campaigners, had already sealed the eventual outcome when they won their sixth game 4-1 against TZ FC.

In their last match, the team could even afford to field several reserve players but went on to thrash Rimba Hijau 5-2. Meanwhile, the outcome in Division II Group A was much tighter.

Three teams collected 11 points each. The order of finish – DD FC, Red Hackle and Mikas FC – was decided by goal difference. Sinar Suria (13 points), SMK Lanang (12) and Sibu Medical (8) were the top three teams in Division II Group B.

All the four teams from Division I and the top four teams from Division II Group A and Group B have qualified for the Sibu FA Cup, scheduled to start on Nov 29.

Hajis said the draw would be held at Malay Union Club Hall at Kampong Hilir at 9am on Nov 22. The final will be held on Dec 12 at 3pm.
