Piquet hopes to collect more points in Putrajaya

KUALA LUMPUR: China Racing Formula E Team driver Nelson Piquet Jr intends to notch another strong performance in the upcoming FIA Formula E Championship (ePrix) in Putrajaya on Saturday.

The 29-year-old German finished in eighth position with four points in the opening round in Beijing, China two months ago.

“I want to keep scoring points in the championship. Our team has developed a lot since the race in China. We have numerous simulator tests and simulations development. I think we did a good job and learnt a lot in the first race. I have a very good feeling for this weekend’s race,” he told reporters at a meet the media session here, Tuesday.

Brazil’s Lucas di Grassi of Audi Sport ABT Team were the first Formula E winner and earned 25 points, while France’s Franck Montagny (Andretti) and Briton Sam Bird (Virgin Racing) were second and third position with 18 and 15 points, respectively.

The second round of the FIA Formula E Championship (ePrix), the world’s first fully electric racing series will be taking place on a temporary street circuit in Putrajaya this Saturday.

The 2.56km ‘track’ of the Putrajaya street circuit which features 12 turns, is located near Perdana Putra which is close to the Prime Minister’s office, and uses much of the main high street and passes through several recognisable buildings, including the Finance Ministry.

The Putrajaya ePrix will begin with a 75-minute practice session and the qualifying session will be a straight fight for the fastest lap time and determines the order for the day’s race grid.

The race will use a standing start and last for approximately one hour with drivers making one mandatory pit stop in order to change cars. — Bernama
