MIRI: A suspected burglar fell three-floor down trying to enter into a rented building at Centre Point here when the tenant woke up and saw a ‘shadow’ behind the window about 3.30am Thursday.

According to sources, the burglar might have been surprised seeing the tenant looking through the window.

The tenant, who wished to remain anonymous, said he first heard strange noise coming out from the balcony area prompted him to inspect. The sources added that the burglar used a wooden ladder to gain entry to the third floor from the second floor by opening the upper ceiling.

“On reaching the second floor area, the man went to the balcony and made his way to the third floor by climbing to balcony area and tried to unlock the window.”

Police chief ACP Gan Tian Kee confirmed receiving a report when contacted yesterday.

“The man, in his 30s, sustained injuries on his head due to the fall and has been rushed to Miri Hospital for treatment,” said Gan.

Sources added that during the fall the man crashed his head first at one of the air-con casing on the second floor before he fell to the ground floor. Gan meanwhile said the injured man was only discovered by a coffee shop owner at the ground floor of the building around 5.30am when he was about to start business for the day.

“He immediately informed Miri Hospital and a few minutes later an ambulance pulled over and brought him to the hospital.”
