KUCHING: A jobless man was arrested in Simunjan after he was found in possession of four homemade air guns during a joint police raid on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old suspect was picked up around 11pm at an unnumbered house at Kampung Lot Simunjan after a police team, comprising CID personnel from Simunjan and anti-narcotics personnel from Serian, found the weapons hidden behind a wooden crate in the man’s kitchen.

A source indicated that the suspect, who later tested positive for syabu, had purchased the air guns from an acquaintance in Simunjan, although it remained unclear as to what his intentions were in doing so. Police are currently working to track down and arrest the seller of the guns. Earlier the same night, the same team detained suspected drug addicts in and around Simunjan bazaar, including an auto workshop worker and nine youths. The workshop worker was picked up after a raid on his workplace uncovered three straw tubes containing a crystalline substance believed to be syabu.

The nine youths, meanwhile, were held after they tested positive during random drug tests conducted at the bazaar.
