Siti Zulaikhaa retains Sarawak International Junior title

KUCHING: Reigning champion Siti Zulaikhaa Shaari retained her title at the 16th Sarawak International Junior Golf Championship at Sarawak Golf Club (KGS) which ended yesterday.

Zulaikhaa, who hails from Selangor and representing the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) scored a total score of 226 throughout the three-day tournament, defeating first runner up Jacqueline Mojulat Nichol of Sabah who scored 242 strokes.

The second runner up, scoring a total gross of 252 was Kimberly Nelson.

Meanwhile, in the Boys category, Sangchai Kaewcharoen of Thailand emerged overall winner after winning the Boys class A category, scoring a gross total score of 215, defeating first runner up Aaron Lau Zhun Min and second runner up Zulhelmi Ramlee who both scored a total of 235.

Sabahan Christopher Daniel James of Sabah won the Boys class B after scoring a total of 240 strokes, defeating Lim Beng Keat and David Bandat who scored 242 and 246 respectively.

In the girls class B, Natasha Andrea Onn of Malaysian Golf Association was the winner after scoring a total of 236 strokes, defeating Bhenyapa Burangsiri of Thailand and Megan Lee Ze Hui of Bukit Jalil Golf Club who scored 248 and 268 respectively.

The class C category saw Matthew Peregrine of Kelab Golf Sarawak finished top with a total score of 256 strokes, winning by a close margin to Ryan Chee who scored 258 strokes.

Malcolm Ting, who scored a total of 260 finished third.

The class C for girls category saw Allycia Gan Pheik Wen was crowned champion after scoring 251 gross, defeating Sabahan Chew I Youn who scored 277 while Singaporean Jin Jiarui with 278 strokes in third place

KGS dominated the boys class C category with its players Mohad Aiman Al-Hakim, Anson Yeo and Elden Sim finishing first, second and third after scoring 239, 240 and 242 strokes respectively.

The girls class D saw Pimpisa Sisytham of Thailand winning through playoff after scoring 237 strokes edging Angel Hii who also scored 237 strokes, while Mirabel Ting who were the second runner up scored a total of 254.

The team event for boys category D was won by ISF Boys who scored a total gross of 703, followed by 5.0 High Hand with 705 and Sabah HG with a total gross of 724.

The KGS girls were crowned as the winner for the team event category after scoring a total gross of 784, while Miri Girls team followed was second with 908 points.
